Mumbai Strikers continued their resurgence with a narrow 1-0 win over newly promoted ICL Payyade FC.
MS started off on the right note and with a great chance to go ahead early in the game. However, it was a missed opportunity as Akshay Ds header climbed a bit over the cross bar. That did not stop MS as they kept creating chances but somehow were unable to find the target.
The breakthrough came halfway in the 22nd min with Ravish D's exquisite solo goal. He cracked through several ICL players who crowded the box including the centre back. Some neat close control helped Ravish blast a left footer through the legs of the onrushing keeper. ICL were unable to get their game going as their long pass strategy to find their African striker was well managed by the MS center backs Rakesh P and Akshay Saraf. MS continued their gameplay and enjoyed majority possession but couldn't increase their tally. MS walked into the tunnel with the lead with yet another 45 mins to play.
ICL came out with renewed belief in the second half as they settled in and were posing more of an attacking threat. They almost got even as their African striker found the net via a tap in from a precise cross only to be adjudged off side much to MS' relief. MS sat back and were forced to defend deep as the momentum shifted in ICL's way. ICL were gifted the best chance to equalise as MS defender Akshay S' clearance hit his hand which resulted in a penalty. Abhishek Singh showed his class yet again as he kept MS in the game with a spectacular save. MS were able to hold their nerve and the one goal lead at the final whistle as they registered their third win.
