MS entered the new year in great fashion with an excellent 2-0 victory over Rhema SF. With much improvement in their attacking style, the Strikers have shown consistency in their performance after taking 7 points of their previous 3 matches.
Continuing the same form, MS forward Akshay D could have opened the scoring within the first 5 minutes from kick off but it did not click as expected. The second chance of the match came MS' way within minutes of the first, as a beautiful cross from Himesh M found Rishabh V. However, the chance again went begging while MS hunted for the breakthrough. On the other hand, Rhema SF had their golden opportunity to take the lead. A neat move from the left found their striker in the penalty area who blasted the ball over the crossbar much to MS' relief. Both teams went into the break without anything to show for their efforts.
The second half was expected to be an entertaining one. MS came out strongly after the break, as they showered Rhema's defence with numerous attacks. The breakthrough for MS came in the 62nd minute when Akshay D made amends for his early missed chance by placing the ball in the net after receiving a through pass from midfielder Amit K. Rhema couldn't muster enough firepower to respond as MS' defence kept every attack at bay. Akshay D scored his second via a header as Rishabh V delivered a perfect cross from the wing for a fabulous finishing touch. MS were able to hold on to the lead and register its fifth clean sheet in seven matches as the match ended 2-0.
MS look forward to continue their form and climb up the table as the league enters its second phase.
