India U18 Rugby Women’s Team & Kyra bag Silver at the Asia Rugby U18 Sevens Championship

In some exciting news from Nepal, the Indian U18 Rugby Women’s team grabbed second place at the Asia Rugby U18 Sevens Championship which was held at Kathmandu on 10th & 11th December 2022. Kyra Vincent, who represented Mumbai Strikers SC’s Women’s Rugby Team was a part of the winning squad that travelled.

The Indian Team first faced Malaysia in their schedule. The girls put up a shining performance to thump the Malaysians 58-0. The next encounter was not a walk in the park as Thailand gave the Indian team a tough time on the field. However, the girls powered up and retaliated well with a 26-12 victory over Thailand making it two wins out of two games. The Indian girls met with defeat for the first time in the tournament in their third game against UAE. UAE ran riot with a 31-14 victory over the Indian team handing them their first defeat. With another game in hand against Nepal, the girls aimed to make the best of it. Having lost the previous game, the girls got their act together to register a comprehensive 41-0 victory over Nepal and made it to the finals.

The Indian contingent worked their way up to the finale in superior fashion and this time they had to face their bitter tournament rivals, UAE. The squad strategized to put up a better performance against the UAE and also avenge their league game defeat. However, UAE once again turned to be the nemesis and ran away winners with a 26-5 score line.

The girls put up a valiant effort in all their games and grabbed the runners-up spot with UAE winning the championship.
