The last football season was one of the rarest that the fraternity of Mumbai has ever seen. The season came to an abrupt standstill with the coronavirus pandemic lashing all activities including sports all over the world. It has been a harrowing experience for each and every one globally especially athletes who are ever so active throughout. Similarly, the Mumbai Football League came to a halt leaving the Super and Elite Divisions incomplete. To derive the winners of the Super and Elite Divisions, the points per game concept was applied by the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA). After much calculation and discussion, Mumbai Strikers SC was officially announced Third Place winners of the Elite Division (Private) in the Mumbai Football League. This becomes the clubs highest ever achieved position in the Mumbai Football League.
The Strikers amassed 19 points in their 9 games played and emerged victorious in 6 games. The only two teams that bettered MS were KSA who were eventual champions of the Elite Division (Private) and Kenkre FC who grabbed second place. The Mumbai Strikers had a wonderful season that led to a podium finish. It was statistically a great season as well. The highlight of the season was maintaining clean sheets in 7 of their 9 games and conceded only 5 goals throughout the active season. In terms of scoring, 11 goals were scored that enabled maintaining a positive difference of 6 goals.
The team was coached by duo Maclin D'penha and Varun D'souza who were for the first time leading a senior team in their careers after taking over from Sandeep Singh in the middle of the season. The squad for the season was limited with a balance of youth and experience.
The third place finish guarantees the club to apply to the next stage of Indian Football. The club on sporting merit qualify for the State League or the I-League 2 if all other club licencing criteria are fulfilled.
The team was in immaculate form prior to the lockdown and was a tough nut to crack for all teams in the Elite Division. The club continues to progress on it's journey to climb the ladder of Indian Football.
