MS Rugby Coach and Mentor, Shikha Thakkar has been one of the most active and result-oriented coaches in the Mumbai Strikers Camp. It is evident with the number of girls that have been training with the club and also with the ones who went up to represent the District, State and Country in the sport of Rugby. However, this time it is a different occasion and a proud moment for her and MS as well. Shikha was selected as the Administrative Manager of the Indian Women’s Rugby Team by the Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU).

The Indian Women’s Rugby Team recently participated in the Asia Rugby Sevens Championship 2022 which was held at Jakarta, Indonesia on the 6th & 7th of August. The selection camp for this tournament was held at Odisha from 20th June 2022 to 4th August 2022. Shikha accompanied the team that travelled to Indonesia early this month. Other nations like Guam, UAE, Singapore and home team Indonesia were also part of the tournament. The Indian Women’s Team had a good run throughout the tournament which eventually led them to a grand finale against Singapore. After a tough encounter, the Indian Women succumbed to a 17-5 loss in the final. Not the result that was desired, but the Indian Women brought home the Silver Medal from the tournament.

Shikha, a home-grown coach, has been trained & mentored by MS throughout from her school days. She displayed true passion while training and also in her performances as a player during major tournaments. It is safe to say that she instills the same values & principles in the girls that she trains and demands continuous effort, only to make them better each day. Her tireless work & dedication on and off the ground is what catches the eye and her growth to the next level is well deserved.

MS Congratulates Shikha and the whole contingent of the Indian Rugby Women’s Team on achieving Second place at the Asia Rugby Sevens Championship 2022.
