MS Rugby Mentor Shikha Thakkar has been an integral part of the Mumbai Strikers SC Senior Women’s Team. Her journey with Rugby began from her school days in St. Mary’s Convent School in Mulund and she still continues to create magic by training girls in the sport. Shikha has been a core member of the Mumbai Strikers SC and has won many accolades at the National Level.

In some good news, Shikha has been chosen as the Assistant Coach for the Indian Womens Rugby Team that travelled to Bhubaneshwar. She was in the elite company of South African Coaches Mr. Hendrik Egnatuis Botha, well known as Naas Botha to the people who he works with, Ludwiche Van Deventer and Jannie Brooks. Shikha was also accompanied by other Indian Coaches like Rehmuddin, Manas, Dhiru, Sourojit, Laxmipriya Sahu, Sanjukta Munda and Chinu.

Following her brilliant performance as Asst. Coach, Shikha was selected to be the Team Manager of the Indian Women’s Rugby team and was to travel with the team to Dubai Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy which was to be held on 26th and 27th November 2021. However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the tournament was postponed to March next year and the team had to cancel plans. Shikha mentioned, “The team was prepared and excited to travel, but our joy was cut short by the announcement. Coaches Ludwiche and Naas arranged for a mini tournament for the 28 Players in the camp - 14 Men & 14 Women within a day and that was extremely enjoyable. All in all it was a great experience, learnt a lot of things, a lot of different ways of doing things and also had the pleasure of meeting some individuals with great minds!”
