In an exciting encounter which was dominated mainly by Mumbai Strikers SC, a lack of goals denied victory to both MSSC and Chedda Nagar FF. MSSC played the Chedda Nagar boys on the 14th of January at the St Xaviers Ground, Parel and their intention to go for a win was clear after the loss against Desperados FC.
In the first half of the encounter, MSSC sent a clear message to their opponents through various attacking opportunities. However, some clean and outstanding defence by CFF players denied MSSC the chance to convert all of their attacks. There were frequent threats from the CFF attacking line as well, but was well taken care of by the MSSC defenders. In the course, MSSC defender Arnold M received a yellow card, his second in the tournament which will keep him out for the next match. The score stayed at 0-0 in the first half.
The second half was expected to be thrilling as both sides vied for the playoff spot and a victory here would have got them closer to it. The intensity of the attacks from MSSC increased a bit and they kept the CFF defenders on their toes. CFF got lucky when one of MSSCs midfielders Abhijit S shot a screamer from yards away that hit the upright and came back into play. Towards the dying minutes, substitute Aditya S came in and had a clear shot on goal which was heroically cleared off the line by one of the CFF defenders. A defiant CFF kept the Mumbai Strikers at bay and the match ended in a goalless draw keeping both the teams waiting for the play-off spot. However, MSSC are still in contention for the spot with 3 matches to be played.
