It was an all important game as Mumbai Strikers SC played their first play-off game against DECA at the Poinsur Gymkhana Ground at Kandivli. The result was far from expected as the Strikers lost the game 1-0 after DECA snatched victory in the 88th minute. This is the first defeat of the season and it certainly has not come at a good time for MSSC.

It was a clear day but was an even hot afternoon. Both teams looked well prepared as they vied for glory in their first play-off game. In the first half the defensive departments of both the teams were on their toes as they thwarted all attempts towards the goal. Not many chances were created and if created, the conversion rate was not up to the mark as the defense was stubborn. However, DECA came close to scoring in the first half during a corner kick. A pinpoint pass from the corner found the DECA midfielder whose header flew inches over the crossbar. A few attempts from MS Forward Ravish D were not very convincing as they all landed softly into the DECA keeper’s hands. After dealing with much frustration and physical aggression the first half ended 0-0.

The second half was similar and either side were not giving up on their defensive responsibilities. However, it was a struggle for the midfield & forward line to create and make the chances count. However, in the 88th minute, DECA moved into the defensive area of the Strikers through the left flank. The winger found his striker in the open who had all the time and space to slam a low lying shot into the Mumbai Strikers net. It was the only chance that counted at the end of it all and DECA picked up all three points.

Mumbai Strikers SC have to win the next game to keep their hopes alive for a spot in the semi-final. They face Millat FC on the 25th of February at the same venue.
