The colts from Mumbai Strikers Performance Academy put up a great show at the Monsoon Cup that was held at Thane’s CP Goenka International School. However, they made it only to the quarter finals of the event as they went down fighting in a close penalty shootout. The tournament was organised by Urban Sports in association with Goenka Sports Academy on the 22nd and 23rd of July.
The lads began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Parle Tigers. To lift their chances of being in the tournament, they bounced back with a thumping 4-0 victory against Milan FA. Ankush Singh, Achal Padwal, Vipul Bhuvad & Rugwed Palodkar scored one each to create the wonderful victory. The next and third bout was a must win for MSPA and it was a gift as they ended up with 3 points and 3 goals through a walkover.
MSPA locked horns with DFA in the quarter finals. Both teams played out an exciting yet goalless draw. MSPAs journey in the tournament ended as they were on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline. Yash Malhari & Ankush Singh scored for MSPA in the shootout.
