The Mumbai Strikers Performance Academy fielded three different teams at the Foot Roar Tournament organised by the Lions Club of Panvel on the 19th & 20th of August 2017. The event was held at the CKT Senior College in Panvel and was attended by many other reputed academies from across Thane, Navi Mumbai & Mumbai.

MSPA participated in the U11 Boys & U15 Boys category and also fielded a team in the Girls Open category. The U11 boys were pooled with VNFC, Kooh Sports and Bombay Stallions B. It was not an easy venture for them as they drew against VNFC and Bombay Stallions B while being handed a defeat by Kooh Sports. The U15 lads were on a dream run. They were grouped along with the likes of FC Kamothe, Sacred Heart and Bombay Stallions A. The boys romped to a comprehensive victory over Bombay Stallions with a score of 2-0 and edged past Sacred Heart with a score line of 3-2. In order to qualify for the semi final, MSPA U15 had to register a win against FC Kamothe. However, things did not work their way and FCK blanked MSPA 2-0, bringing their dream run to a halt in the tournament.

The MSPA Girls had a different story to tell. The girls recorded thumping victories against Bharti Vidyapeeth A, Bharti Vidyapeeth B and Chetan FC. The winning trophy was in sight as the girls qualified for the finals against Chetan FC. The result was unlike the one from the group stage. Chetan FC avenged their group stage defeat by dragging the final bout to a penalty shootout and defeating MSPA 3-2. The girls grabbed the runners-up position and Ishita Chande won the Best Player of the Tournament Award.

MSPA Coach Saurabh Keni was content with the performance and said that the kids showed true grit and the effort was commendable. There is a lot more to learn and the results will look much different on the brighter side.
