Mumbai Strikers SC will have to wait for a play-off spot after Companeroes SC held them to a goalless draw at the Goan Sports Association Grounds on the 17th of January. It was an evenly matched competition from the start as the teams vied for a win which was crucial to both. However, Mumbai Strikers continued their unbeaten streak and are table toppers despite this result.

Companeroes SC were pretty much sorted and had a great strategy when it came to switching the game at regular intervals. They were quick, agile and attacking. Mumbai Strikers SC did not give in to their attacking attempts with some tough defending. However, the Strikers came very close to scoring in the first half. The effort was somehow cleared safely off the line. In another attempt MS midfielder Pranav M had a clear shot on target which was handled by one of the defenders and the referee clearly chose to ignore and make it a controversial decision. The first half ended 0-0 with both teams piling up almost equal pressure. The second half began even more aggressively as the teams had just 45 more minutes to go for the kill. The defensive departments of both teams were on their toes as they were tested regularly. MS came close to scoring once again when Akshay D crossed the ball dangerously into the Companeroes penalty area which was poorly handled by the defender. However, Ravish D could not make the most of the chance as he saw the ball go past him unexpectedly. In the dying minutes of the game, the teams were evenly poised and the attackers were frustrated with chances going down the drain. The match ended without any goals and both teams walked away with a share of the spoils.

MS did not achieve the result that they desired and had to make do with a draw. The result will make them wait for a clear spot in the play-off stage. They face SBI in their sixth game of the league. Coach Firmin D’souza expressed his disappointment with the result and said that the goals need to flow at this stage of the league and further.
