In what ended in a one sided match, Mumbai Strikers managed a convincing 7-1 win over relegation threatened Desperados FC. Mumbai Strikers, who are aiming for a promotion to the Super Division this year put in four goals in the first half and another three in the second. Coach Firmin had warned against complacency as goal difference can prove to be vital at the end of the league stage. Keeping that in mind, Mumbai Strikers came out with an attacking mindset and looked to continue it throughout the game.
Desperados FC took an early lead in the game in what could be a record goal time. They scored in the first 30 seconds of the start. A concentration lapse and confusion between the right back and right midfield saw the striker go past the defence and finishing cleanly. Mumbai Strikers players were stunned. However, that was one of the very few chances Desperados had in the entire game. The hot & humid conditions didn’t make life any easier for both teams.
Another game between Goans FC and Khalsa Gymkhana from the same pool saw Goans emerge victorious by a solitary goal. With important fixtures coming up, the race for the top 2 positions is only going to get more intense and consistency will be the key towards qualification.
