Today, where the people are all eyes for Football and Cricket some of us thought it is time to shift our focus on another sport which all know of but hardly watch or play. The sport is Rugby. Many of us know about it and must have watched it as we switch our channels on the TV. It is a wonderful sport if we get to know it. Therefore to make us familiar with it The Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) held its first Rugby Clinic in North East Mumbai.

The ARFU has been and will be conducting such clinics all over the country in times to come. Mumbai was the third stop in the schedule of the HSBC Asian Rugby 7s Series 2012. They chose to hold this clinic on a ground in Nahur (East) and they held this clinic in Mumbai with the support of Mumbai Strikers Sports Club (MSSC) which is affiliated with the Western India Rugby Football Union. MSSC is based in the suburb of Mulund and is active in the sport of Rugby since 2010.

This Rugby Clinic was sponsored by HSBC and was conducted by the ARFU and Rugby India together. The trainers who conducted this clinic were Singaporean International Player & ARFU Official Mr. Mohammad Ismail ‘Izzy’ Kadir, Mr. Douglas D. who also is a Singaporean International Player and Rugby India Coach Mr. Vikas C.

This Clinic benefited more than 200 children from 4 schools of Mulund and Nahur. The schools were Vidyadhiraja High School, Shivai Vidyalaya, MD Keni High School and Vidyaben Gardi High School.

The Clinic was primarily held to promote the sport of Rugby among young school children. They believe that if the sport is promoted now among these children it will be better known and will also be considered by them as a sport to be played.
