MS Rugby girls help Maharashtra secure second spot in All India Tournament

It has been an unstoppable run of victories for the girls from Mumbai Strikers Rugby. Ruchi Shetty, Shikha Thakkar, Roshini Sharma, Gargee Walekar and Shraddha Lawand have yet again proved their mettle and grabbed the second place for Maharashtra in the 2015 All India U-18 Girls 7s Tournament which was held in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. Maharashtra stood second in the tournament with West Bengal ruling the table. It is not for the first time that Maharashtra has reached the podium and the girls have put in their all this time as usual.

In the tournament that was held on the 22nd and 23rd of September, Maharashtra won both of their league games. They were pooled in Group A with home team Odisha and Chattisgarh. In their first encounter with Chattisgarh, Maharashtra won with a more than comprehensive scoreline of 30-0 while the second one with Odisha was a tough nut to crack as they edged past them with a score of 7-5. Into the knock-out phase, Maharashtra faced Uttar Pradesh first where they defeated the latter by a scoreline of 10-5. They registered their fourth consecutive win against Delhi by beating them 19-7 to walk into the grand finale. West Bengal & Maharashtra qualified for the finals and it was a stunner of a match as West Bengal trampled a spirited Maharashtra by a massive score of 42-0.

Ruchi scored 4 tries in all and that included 3 conversions. Gargee and Roshni pooled in 2 and 1 tries each in the score tally for Maharashtra. The girls had a wonderful tournament as always and are looking forward to some more Rugby. MSSC wish them good luck for future competitions.
