Ex-St Marys girls listed for the 35th National Games at Kerala

It is an extremely proud moment for St. Mary’s Convent and Mumbai Strikers SC as two of their students Ruchi Shetty and Shikha Thakkar made it to the 35th National Games which will be held from the 31st of January to the 14th of February 2015 at Kerala. They will represent Maharashtra in the sport of Rugby. Rugby is being played for the first time in the 35 editions of this grand event.

The squad for the Womens Maharashtra Rugby team include players from Pune like Vahbiz Bharucha, Saloni Prachande, Annapurna Bothate, Surabhi Date, Nikita Chitti Bhatia and Neha Pardeshi. The players selected from Mumbai  Jasmeet Kaur, Ruchi Shetty, Gloria John Patil, Jyoti Kumari Mandal, Shikha Thakkar and Seema.

The National Games are considered to be the Olympics of India. Its inception aimed at promoting Olympic games in the country and preparing individuals in each sport to compete at the global level. Prior to 1940, they were known as the Indian Olympic games and later became famous as the National Games.

Ruchi and Shikha have always been enthusiastic about Rugby and have pushed their limits in the sport while in school and even in recent times. They have represented the school and club in various tournaments held in and around the city. Being selected for such a grand sporting event, will take them to an all new level of Rugby and we at MSSC, wish them nothing but success in Kerala.
