In an exhilarating encounter at the Cooperage Stadium, the Mumbai Strikers came back from a goal down to win 2-1 against Sellebrity FC in the first match of the Elite Division season. This is the second year running for the Strikers in the top flight of Mumbai football and they started off with a positive result unlike last season.
The first few minutes saw some moderate competition between the two teams. However, MS created many chances that were not converted effectively. Towards the last few minutes of the first half, Sellebrity FC found the net through an exquisite finish by their african midfielder. They went in leaders at halftime with 1-0 on the scoreboard.
The second half had another story to tell as MS agressively pressed and looked for the equaliser. The hardworked paid off when MS spearhead Akshay D slotted past one to equalise for the Strikers. The attacking moves piled on the pressure on Sellebrity and so did the morning heat. Taking advantage, the winner came from Jay Wadhwa who scored his first goal for MS through a thunderous volley which allowed the keeper only to watch.
In the dying minutes, the heat took a toll on the players and Sellebrity FC had no response to the winning goal.
MS grabbed three points from the first game and will now prepare for their second encounter on 19th December scheduled against Companeroes SC.
