Mumbai Strikers began their Super Division campaign with a win on the 28th of October beating State Bank of India by a score of 2-1. MSSC Head Coach Firmin D’souza fielded his best eleven which also included three debutantes Abhishek Singh, Prathamesh Warang and Reuel Kunder whereas Omkar Sawant came on late as a substitute in the second half. The newly inducted put up a more than fabulous performance and contributed majorly to the deserved win.

The players added to the team were a mixed bag of experience and youth as Omkar Sawant and Prathamesh Warang spiced up the defensive department while Reuel Kunder added firepower to the attacking front. Abhishek Singh came in as a goal keeper and has added to the confidence of the team.

Reuel K, a T.Y.B.Sc.IT student has enough experience in Division 1 and 3 to make it to this year’s MSSC squad. He has played for Vikhrolians in Div 3 and then progressed to Div 1 for another team VVFC. Reuel is a swift powerful striker and can recover the ball well. Coming down the field, Omkar S brings in immense experience in the sport. A well qualified ERP consultant in Godrej Infotech has similar credits in Football as well. He has been active since school days by representing Maharashtra in various age groups and kept progressing till he represented Mumbai University as vice captain. Omkar S represented teams like Kenkre Football Club and Mumbai Customs at the Elite Division. His experience and sense in the game as a Wing Back is an invaluable asset to the club this year. Partnering him in defense this year is another newcomer Prathamesh W who prefers to play Left Back on the field. Prathamesh works with the reputed KOOH sports as a PT Teacher and Football Coach and continues to play the sport as well. Having played for clubs like Mahindra United, Mumbai Customs, Bank of India, Companeroes, ICL and Sea View, he also found his way to the MSSC squad this season. Prathamesh makes his presence felt in the defending department and is a fierce tackler. Last, but the most important, coming to fill in the position of Goalkeeper is an IT professional, Abhishek Singh. He has displayed grit and valour in the trials and also in friendlies prior to the season’s start. Abhishek has represented Air India U19, DK Pharma and ICL Youngsters in the past. His addition has diminished the squad’s goalkeeping woes.

Reuel K, Omkar S, Prathamesh W and Abhishek S have boosted the confidence of the team this year and we wish them luck in the Super Division with MSSC.
