MSSC draw second pre-season friendly under new manager

In preparation of the league, MSSC played a practice match on Sunday, 9th February 2014 against a very competitive Salsette FC who are based out of Thane. The match was held at the Tekson grounds on a windy Sunday evening. MSSC played the game with a 4-1-4-1 formation. Salsette looked more composed over the ball in the early minutes and played the long ball game trying to take advantage of the wind. MSSC were slow to start and looked rusty initially. Salsette capitalized on the concentration lapse in the MSSC defense, a long ball played over the left back was totally misjudged by the goalkeeper who completely lost the ball leaving an empty net for the Salsette striker to tap the ball in to. At the lemon break the score was 1-0 in favor of Salsette FC.

Coach Firmin pointed out the areas of improvement during the team talk and asked the team to show more aggressiveness while attacking. Tactical changes saw Ravish D’souza move to striker. The ground conditions compelled the teams to avoid playing a lot of ground passes. MSSC managed to equalize from a corner where Rakesh Patne headed the ball in the goal leaving no chance for the keeper. MSSC saw more of the ball in the second half with some combination plays. Salsette started playing more from the flanks trying to make the short passes count. They managed to take the lead again from a corner. Ravish then managed to pull a goal back from a brilliant solo effort ending the game with a 2-2 scoreline.

The game saw some telling performances from players of MSSC in the second half. Coach Firmin applauded performances from Rakesh Patne, Calvin Seqeira and Abhijit Shetty. In a nutshell the game helped MSSC highlight the areas to improve before the first game of the season.
