Mumbai Strikers SC were listed in their first ever Nadkarni Cup tournament this year. The 111th Nadkarni Cup Tournament was held at the RCF Grounds Chembur from 6th Feb to 17th Feb 2018. A mixed bag of 16 Super and Elite Division teams participated in the tournament that was played on a knockout basis.

MS were first slotted to play Mumbai Customs on the 9th of February. Considering their 4-1 defeat against Customs in the Elite Division League, the latter stood favourites for this encounter. However, the results had something else to show as MS held Customs to a 0-0 draw in regulation time and knocked them out in the penalty shootout with a score of 4-2. After their first victory, MS were drawn up against Bank of India. The last time MS faced Bank of India, in a competitive game, was last season in the Super Division where MS came from back to win 2-1. Looking to replicate the same performance, MS put their best foot forward and produced a gutsy 0-0 draw in 90 minutes against the Bankers. Going into the shootout, MS emerged victorious yet again with a 4-2 win hence qualifying for the semis against Union Bank of India. MS were in unknown waters as it was their first ever game against UBI and they have to yet clash in the Elite Division League. MS were in hot form in this tournament and by 40th minute were 2-1 up and dominated proceedings until a prolific strike from UBI by end of half time equalised the score to 2-2. Come the seond half, UBI scored their third in the 54th minute to take the lead and it proved to be enough till the end of the game as UBI booked their spot in the finale against Air India.

Overall, a wonderful tournament rally came to an end for the Strikers and now they look forward to replicate the same form and performances in their forthcoming Elite Division league games.

MS were on the receiving end of a 7-0 thrashing by ONGC on February 3rd at the Mumbai Football Arena, Andheri. ONGC recorded the biggest win of the Elite Division season while MS looked at their fourth loss of the season.

MS struggled to gain any control or momentum in the game against a much superior and organised ONGC unit. Despite their victory against Western Railway in their previous match, MS seemed to have lost the plot in this one.

The next step in the season would be the upcoming Nadkarni Cup in which Mumbai Strikers face Mumbai Customs in their first bout on the 9th of February 2018.

MS finally took away all three points in their Elite division campaign this year with a much needed win against the mighty Western Railway. The Railway men stand tall at second spot while MS were reeling at the bottom and the result was nothing less than a shocker.

MS were cruising right from the start and were in total control of the game. At times WR posed a threat to the MS defence, but all attempts were thwarted with some alert defending.  A number of chances were created by the MS midfield but did not meet the right result. However, Arsalan H changed it all in the 28th minute as he tapped in a sitter which rebounded off the WR keeper. After the magnificent moment, the MS midfield maintained the combination play, but failed to double the lead. At the end of the game, it was Arsalan’s solitary goal that separated the two and sealed the deal for MS.

With this win MS climbed three places from the bottom. The victory keeps them at 4 points in 5 games and is an absolute morale boost for the rest of the season.

After a gutsy draw against KSA in their fourth Elite Division fixture, MS looked stronger in their strategy and outlook for their bout against the experienced Mumbai Customs. The Cooperage Stadium was in for some action as both teams looked to stamp their authority with a win.

MS started well with some dominant play in the first half and kept possession confidently with Customs trying to guess their plot. The twist in the tale came when MS forward Ravish D helped Winger Shrinath G with a textbook through pass which eventually landed up in the net. Shrinath put MS in the drivers seat for the first half as the score read 1-0 in favour of MS.

Come the second half and there was a different story to tell. Mumbai Customs introduced some changes in their manpower and also initiated a backlash by thumping in 4 goals in the second half with MS having no response. MS lost out on all 3 points despite a brave start in the game that ended 4-1 favouring Customs. They stand last in the pool with just 1 point in 4 games and will look forward to bounce back in their game against another experienced opponent, Western Railway.

It’s another feather on the cap for the Mumbai Strikers Performance Academy. After the U-13 boys of the MSPA grabbed the title at the Adidas Uprising tournament, it’s the girls from St Mary’s Convent School, Mulund who have qualified for the playoff stage of the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) Football tournament.

The campaign began with a walkover from Ryan International, Malad which got in 3 valuable goals and points. It was a test for the girls against Narayana E-techno from Borivali as Mary’s was reduced to 9-men. However, after a hard fought encounter, the girls earned a vital 0-0 draw. The girls now had to go past St. John the Evangelist, Andheri to hop into the playoff stage. It was a show of true grit as St Mary’s recorded a 2-1 victory after being a goal down. Kyra Vincent and Serene Joseph made it to the score sheet as St Mary’s walk proudly to the playoffs

We wish nothing but good luck to the girls for the remainder of the campaign.

The Under-13 collective of the Mumbai Strikers Performance Academy reigned supreme in the third edition of the Adidas Uprising Tournament. The tournament was held on 4th and 5th November 2017 at the St Andrews Turf located in Bandra.

MSPA faced the likes of Football Leaders Academy, Oranje Academy, St Lawrence and Agro FC. MSPA ran riot as they remained unbeaten throughout the tournament after recording comprehensive victories over their opponents. Bhavya Thakker (5) and Dhruv Mane (5) netted goals in almost every match while Harshad Bhobate (2), Anish Joshi and Joshua Thomas also contributed on the score sheet.

Congratulations to the boys on such a commendable performance and we wish them luck in their forthcoming campaigns.

MS faced Century Rayon in the second fixture of the Elite Division season and having played them before in the Super Division last year, they knew it was not an easy encounter. However, MS looked geared up to snatch victory after being trounced 8-1 by Air India in the first game.

The intensity was tremendous from the start as MS and Rayon both exchanged blows in the first half. The defensive herds of both teams had a tough time taking on the attacking department. Century Rayon almost scored in the first fifteen minutes of the game due to a defensive scramble but saw the effort go off the post. It was a goalless first half and the next 45 minutes were vital.

The second half was even more intense and interesting as both teams tried to break the deadlock. The moment of glory came for Century Rayon when they scored the first goal in the 75th minute through a clinical finish by their striker. Ten minutes later, MS succumbed to another goal which deflected off MS defender Rakesh P while Rayon bagged all three points from the game.

MS now have two losses in two games and they are on the hunt for their first Elite Division victory.
