The Indian Under 18 Girls rugby team took part in the first edition of the Asian U18 Girls 7s held from 30th Nov to 2nd Dec at the Dubai Sports City in Dubai, UAE. The tournament organised by the UAERF, under the aegis of Asia Rugby featured six teams viz. India, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan & home team UAE.

The Indian team had a sparkling first day at the tournament as they won all 3 games.

The girls put up a splendid performance and went on to beat Sri Lanka 24-0, Uzbekistan 19-5 & UAE 33-0 respectively. On Day two, India faced the likes of Hong Kong and Kazakhstan who were physically superior as far as the game is concerned. On Day two, the Indian girls played with grit and valour as they restricted Hong Kong to only a 5-0 win. Considering that it was their first ever tournament at the international level, a 5-0 defeat is an enthralling achievement. The girls went down fighting against Kazakhstan who won the second game by a score of 24-0.

However, the girls had a match remaining as they locked horns with Sri Lanka for the third place. The team was injury struck as they had 4 of their starting players rested for this encounter. That did not hamper their spirits as they went on the clinch third place after beating Sri Lanka 15-7.

The team has shared a great bonding in this tournament and this tournament has also taught the girls a lot in terms of the game. Mumbai Strikers is proud of its players Ruchi Shetty, Gargee Walekar, Kshitija Manglurkar, Krutuja Manglurkar and Shraddha Lawand and many congratulations on their achievement in this tournament.
