Mumbai Strikers bags its first ever Basketball tournament

Sportsworks India organized a first of its kind basketball summer league at the Kalidas Sports Complex, Mulund. The tournament followed a single leg round-robin format comprising of 6 boys and 6 girls teams in both categories. Most of the teams that participated were from Mulund, with some notable teams like Chembur YMCA, Basketball Network (Thane) & Ex-Holy Cross girls (Thane) also participating.

Ex-Holy Cross girls eased passed all the teams in the girl’s category to clinch the first place. They had in their team former Maharashtra player, Malina Karkada. Basketball Network ‘A’ took second place.

In the boy’s category, it was assumed that Chembur YMCA and Basketball Network were going to be in a two way battle for first place. However, out of the blue, it was Mumbai Strikers (MS) that grabbed first place. MS participated with current football team players in Ravish D’souza, Leon Menezes & Arnold Mascarenhas and a few of the young budding local lads. They lost their first game to Mulund based team Sapphires.

MS wasn’t going to go out without a fight and participation alone was not enough for them to be content with. They introduced two guest players in Titus Andrade and Soham Khimani, both of whom having being associated with the Fr. Agnels institute, Vashi. Their experience, skill and attitude not only helped lift the game of the other players in the team but also guided MS to 4 straight convincing wins and ultimately the first place.

Congratulations to Mumbai Strikers on their maiden basketball title and thank you to all the teams that participated.
